Collagen is a fibrous protein that makes your skin look plump, taut, and youthful. It essentially holds your skin tissues upright against the force of gravity. The loss of collagen due to age, genetics, environmental pollutants, and other factors leads to sagging skin, wrinkles, and other signs of aging. Microneedling is one of the most effective non-surgical techniques to encourage collagen production and reverse the signs of aging.

At Synergy MedAesthetics, we perform microneedling using a cutting-edge device that creates highly-controlled microchannels on your skin’s surface. We customize the treatment according to your unique skin concerns to prevent unnecessary side effects and complications. Your body responds to the controlled injuries by activating collagen production, which helps you achieve smooth, taut, and youthful skin.

How does microneedling work?

Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy because its primary goal is to encourage collagen production. During this procedure, a microneedling pen is used to make highly-controlled micro-injuries on the skin’s surface to trigger your wound healing mechanism. Your body reacts to the micro-injuries by activating skin cell turnover and collagen production.

Over time, the damaged skin tissues are replaced by new skin cells, making your skin look smoother and brighter. Furthermore, as your body produces new collagen fibers, your skin looks firmer, smoother, and more youthful. The results are completely natural because they’re based on your body’s natural collagen production capabilities.

What is microneedling with PRF?

At Synergy MedAesthetics in Beverly Hills, we often combine microneedling with PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) to boost the anti-aging results. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a component of your blood with a high concentration of growth factors, the components responsible for most of your body’s natural healing and growth activities. When you’re injured, the growth factors in your blood encourage clot formation to heal the wounds.

We combine microneedling with PRF to boost your body’s collagen production and healing capabilities. The procedure involves drawing a small sample of your blood and purifying it to isolate the PRFs, which are then applied to your skin after microneedling. The growth factors in PRF catalyze your body’s natural healing capabilities to make your skin look smoother, firmer, and more youthful.

What can I expect from microneedling?

Microneedling is a simple, in-office procedure that concludes within 30 minutes. You’ll be asked to appear for the procedure without make-up. We’ll clean your facial skin and apply a topical anesthetic cream to ensure optimal comfort. Even though microneedling doesn’t cause any pain — it’s like sandpaper being rubbed against your skin — we take all necessary precautions to ensure a painless experience.

During the procedure, the cosmetic provider will calibrate the microneedling pen according to your skin quality and concerns. The microneedling device will be moved over your treatment areas to produce thousands of micro-injuries on the uppermost layers of the skin. The micro-punctures will feel like pin-pricks, and your skin may look inflamed or swollen for a few hours.

If you opt for microneedling with PRF, we’ll also draw a small sample of your blood from your arm. Your blood sample will be spun in a centrifuge to isolate the PRFs, which will be drawn into separate vials and applied to your face after microneedling. After the entire treatment, we apply a soothing cold mask to reduce inflammation. The entire procedure concludes within 30 minutes.

When will I see the results?

Your skin will look a little inflamed and swollen after the treatment, and you’ll have to avoid direct sunlight, exfoliation, pools, and harsh cosmetic products. The results will gradually appear over several weeks as your body produces new collagen fibers. You may also need 3 to 4 microneedling sessions spaced a few weeks apart for optimal results. Your cosmetic provider will recommend the ideal treatment frequency for you.
